Action Mechanism

Although the action mechanism of Acamptas (acamprosate) in causing alcohol abstinence is poorly understood, it is believed that the drug stabilizes the natural chemical balance in the brain. It does so by blocking receptors of the neurotransmitters such as glutamate receptors and activating GABA receptors. By restoring the glutamate and GABA balance, Acamptas helps in reducing the desire to drink alcohol, allowing users to get rid of alcohol addiction or dependence.
