Time it takes to start working:Process starts immediately after starting the medication and results can be seen in 5 to 7 days.

1 :   Generic AMPICILLIN works by penetrating the walls of the infecting bacteria with the help of the amino group.

2 :   It destroys the outer membrane of the infecting bacteria and kills it. Thus, this medication is termed as bactericidal by nature.
3 :   It enters inside the bacteria and then inhibits the enzyme transpeptidase.

4 :   Bacteria require transpeptidase for the formation of cell walls. As the transpeptidase enzyme production is inhibited by this antibiotic drug, bacteria are unable to develop the cell wall during the multiplication and the development of new bacterial colonies is retarded.

5 :   Cell lyses of bacteria takes place and the growth of the bacteria is completely stopped.

6 :   Generic Ampicillin also stops the supply of essential nutrients to bacteria that are necessary for the growth. This way the replication of the bacteria is stopped primarily and then it eradicates the bacterial colonies by killing them. It gives the guaranteed relief from the bacterial infections within 5 to 7 days.

•   Standard dosage of generic Ampicillin is 250 mg four times in a day.

•   It is given as 100 mg to 150 mg three times in a day as prescribed dosage in the pediatric patients.

•   Its dosage can be increased up to 500 mg thrice in a day, depending upon the stage of the bacterial infection and the individual requirements.

•   It is taken as 200 to 400 mg 4 times in day is taken, if the patient is suffering from nose, ear, or throat infections.

•   In case of severe bacterial infections, its dosage can be increased to 500 mg four times in a day.
•   It is given in dosage of 250 mg to 400 mg thrice in a day is prescribed if the person is suffering from bacterial infections in intestines.
•   In case of patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, its dosage is 500 mg thrice in a day. In meningitis patients, 250 mg twice in a day is the given dose.

•   Take this medication on an empty stomach, 1 hour before the lunch, or 2 to 3 hours after the lunch. Take it after lunch if it upsets your stomach.

•   Take it with a full glass of water.

•   Swallow this antibiotic pill whole, do not squeeze, masticate, or break it.

NOTE:   Get the doctor’s advice about the dosage of this antibiotic drug. Never to take this medication in excess because over dose is noted to cause shaking in muscles, pain or twitching, loss of sensation in the toes or fingers, seizures, perplexity, and weakness. Missing the dose of this medication may result in returning of the infection, and this time it may be resistant to the antibiotic.
•   People suffering from high blood pressure can take generic Ampicillin, but only under the doctor’s supervision.

•   People having kidney disorders should consult doctor before starting the dosage of this medication as it has got the tendency to get accumulated in the kidney. So, the dosage adjustment might be needed.
•   If you have stomach or intestinal disease, or infectious mononucleosis, inform your doctor before taking this antibiotic drug.

•   This antibacterial medicine must be avoided, if you are having allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin.

•   It is the FDA pregnancy category B drug. It means that this drug may not harm an unborn baby. Thus, the intake of generic Ampicillin is considered to be safe for use during first three months of pregnancy. But, please remember to inform you doctor first before taking this medication.
•   A yeast infection, diarrhea, or allergic reaction is seen in the infant if the mother is taking this medication because it passes into breast milk from mother to child. However, the side effects shown by this medicine are not harmful. If you are breast-feeding a baby, please talk to doctor before taking this antibacterial drug.

There are some serious side effects such as problem in respiration, anaphylaxis, hives, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, face, or tongue, fainting, or rashes are noted to occur as the side effects caused due to the intake of the generic Ampicillin. You may face these side effects instantly after the intake of this medicine. Please consult the doctor immediately if you face any of these side effects.
•   Generic Ampicillin should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Don’t take it for more duration, because this will make influence your immune system and you may face many other health complications.
•   Cholesterol controlling drugs like cholestyramine or colestipol and antibiotics like minocycline, erythromycin, tetracycline, and doixycycline should not be taken in combination with this medicine as this combination reduces the effect of the generic Ampicillin and may result in increase of side effects.
•   Intake of this antibiotic reduces the effect of the birth control pills so use any other mode to control pregnancy while your are on this medication’s scheduled doses.
