Action Mechanism

The exact mechanism of Generic Neurontin (Gabapentin) is idiopathic. The analgesic and antiepileptic properties of the drug are unknown. Gabapentin is pharmacologically related to the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, but has no effect on its binding, uptake, or degradation. It is presumed that the drug binds with the high-affinity to the a2d subunit of voltage-activated calcium channels; however, the therapeutic effects of gabapentin is unknown.

Dosage

Take Generic Neurontin orally with or without food as advised by your physician.
Dosage is based on your health condition and response to the therapy.
It is important to follow your physician’s dosing instructions. During the initial days of therapy, your physician may gradually increase the dose so that your body gets adjusted to the drug.
To minimize the risk of side effects, make sure you take the first dose just before going to bed.
Take Generic Neurontin regularly. Keep evenly spaced intervals at the same time(s) every day.
Do not take this medication more often or increase the dose by your own volition. You will not notice an improvement by increasing the dose. It works best when you take it exactly as advised.
Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your physician. Some conditions may even become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped.
Check with your physician if your condition does not improve.

Precautions

Before taking Generic Neurontin, check with your physician if you are oversensitive to Gabapentin.
This product may have certain inactive ingredients, which can cause an allergic reaction or any other issue. Talk to your physician for more details.
Prior to using this nerve pain medication, tell your physician about your pre-existing medical history, such as kidney disease, mental or mood problems, drug abuse, use of alcohol, or respiratory problems.
This drug can make you a bit dizzy or drowsy. So, do not drive, ride, or use machinery, during the course of therapy. Limit alcoholic beverages as well.
Before undergoing any surgical intervention, inform your physician about all the medications you use, including prescription or OTC drugs, herbal products, or supplements.

NOTE :These are common side effects of Generic Neurontin. If they persist or worsen, check with physician promptly. Many patients using this nerve pain medication do not have serious adverse effects. Tell your physician if you experience side effects such as swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet. Few patients using this medicine may experience depression, mental or mood changes, or suicidal thoughts.

Warnings

Older adults are more sensitive to the adverse effects of Generic Neurontin, especially swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet. They may also experience shallow breathing, drowsiness, or loss of coordination. Dizziness and loss of coordination may increase the risk of falling in older individuals.
Children are also sensitive to the adverse effects of this nerve pain medicine, especially mental or mood changes and behavior changes – such as hostility, problems concentrating, or restlessness.
Generic Neurontin should be used only when indicated during pregnancy. Check with your physician about the risks and benefits of using Gabapentin during pregnancy.
The drug may pass into breast milk so seek medical advice in advance before you breast-feed while you are on the treatment.
