Time it takes to start working: Process starts immediately after consuming the pill.
1 :   Generic Imitrex works by treating migraine headaches that are caused by the reduced levels of serotonin. Sumatriptan is the major ingredient of this medication that helps to increase the levels of serotonin and treats the migraine attacks.
2 :   It contracts the blood vessels around the brain and stops the decreasing level of serotonin. This medicine treats the migraine headaches that are caused by the dilatation of the blood vessels in the head.
3 :   It is considered to be the member of Triptans group of drugs, which are responsible for increasing the level of serotonin.

4 :   It blocks the pain signals send by the means of hormones that are causing the migraine attacks that is responsible for the reduction of the pro-inflammatory hormones that trigger headache pain in the migraine attacks.
5 :   In simple words generic Imitrex prevent the pain signals from reaching the brain. This medication treats the cluster headaches by decreasing the activity of the trigeminal nerve.
•   Its dosage is prescribed by the doctor depending on the pain and intensity of the side effects observed after the first dosage.
•   This medication is usually taken as the single tablet to treat migraine attacks.

•   Second dosage of this medicine can be taken in 2 hours later, in case if you don’t get the pain relief from generic Imitrex single dosage.
•   Exceeding the dosage above 200 mg in a 24-hour period is not recommended as it results into hazardous side effects.

•   You can take dosage of this medication before or after the lunch.
•   Take this medicine with a full glass of water as it helps the Sumatriptan to suspend fast in the body.
NOTE:    Overdosing this medication can result in adverse physical conditions so before you increase your dosage it is crucial to consult your doctor.
•   Avoid the intake of generic Imitrex if you are suffering from the severe liver disease or ischemic bowel disease.

•   Intake of generic Imitrex should be avoided for next 24 hours if you have taken, almotriptan (Axert), or rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), frovatriptan (Frova), eletriptan (Relpax), ergonovine (Ergotrate), naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), or methylergonovine (Methergine).
•   Please don’t consume this medication if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as, selegiline (Emsam), tranylcypromine (Parnate), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or rasagiline (Azilect) in the past 14 days.

•   Never take this medication more than required because it may result into serious health hazard
