HCG Injection - Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, Price, Interactions, Side effects

Description

HCG is a hormonal medication used in women to treat infertility. It is advised after completing the treatment with another medication, such as menotropins, to cause the release of an egg, the process called ovulation. It is not for women whose ovaries do not make eggs anymore.

It is also used in boys before puberty to promote the normal dropping of the testes into the scrotum. HCG is also used in some boys to improve normal sexual development. It acts by causing the testicles to secrete male sex hormone called testosterone.

Action Mechanism

The action mechanism of HCG is virtually similar to that of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH), although HCG has a small degree of FSH activity as well. HCG stimulates production of gonadal steroid hormones; it does so by stimulating the interstitial cells called Leydig cells of the corpus luteum of the ovary to produce progesterone in women and the testis to produce androgens.
