Time it takes to start working: Process starts immediately after consuming the pill.
1 :   After ingestion Generic Atarax works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body releases during an allergic reaction. Histamine’s active constituents enters the body and blocks the activity of the immune system, which results in the allergic reaction.

2 :   Generic Atarax binds to the histamine receptors and block them from reaching the area of allergy, thus the person feels relief from the allergies
3 :   Generic Atarax shows this effect by influencing the nervous system of the person.
4 :   Most of allergies can be treated with the usage of this medication. This drug also gives an instant relief from the nervousness and tension that are caused by certain mental disorders like anxiety and dementia.
•   Generic Atarax is taken three or four times a day or as directed by the physician.
•   Its dosage is generally taken as 25 mg to 100 mg in a day.
•   The dosage of this drug should be taken with full glass of water because it helps the Hydroxyzine to dissolve quickly in the body and show the benefits.

•   When used for tension and anxiety, the dosage is 50 to 100 mg four times in a day.

•   When used for sedation, the dosage of this drug is 50 to 100 mg one hour before the surgery or after surgery.
•   When used for skin allergies and itching, the dosage is given as 25 mg three to four times in a day.

•   It can be taken at an empty stomach or after the meals.

•   Don’t use this medication continuously during the period for more than 3 to 4 months because it can cause severe health hazards.

•   Excessive dosage on regular basis may lead to low blood pressure and may lead to Coma. No death has been reported due to the excessive intake of this medication.
NOTE:   Do not give generic Atarax medication to children less than 12 years of age unless a doctor directs you to do so. Do not take more or less than what is prescribed by your doctor.
•   In prior of using this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially of breathing problems, a certain eye problem, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney problems, liver problems, seizures, stomach/intestine problems.

•   This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy or cause blurred vision. So don’t drive or operate any machinery soon after taking this drug.
•   Limit alcoholic beverages while consuming this drug.

•   Before having surgery, tell your doctor that you are using this medication.

•   Caution is advised when using generic Atarax in children because they may be more sensitive to its side effects.

•   This drug can often cause excitement in young children instead of drowsiness.

•   Elderly patients must take doctor’s advice before using this drug.
•   Generic Atarax can be used only when clearly needed during the last six months of pregnancy, doctor’s advice is must in this case. It should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy because it causes congenital abnormalities in the fetus. It can also cause seizures or stimulations in the new born babies.
•   If you are taking this drug and you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.

•   It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Please consult the doctor and discuss with him the risks of taking this drug while you are breast feeding a baby.

•   Drowsiness
•   Dizziness
•   Congestion of chest
•   Headache
•   Rashes on skin
•   Tremor
•   Nervousness
•   Confusion and irritation
•   Loss of appetite
NOTE:   These side effects are generally temporary and they ebb away once your body gets used to the dosage of this medicine. Please consult the doctor if any of these side effects doesn’t go away and gets serious.
•   Inform your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medication.
•   The action of generic Atarax must be considered when the drug is used in conjunction with central nervous system depressants.
•   Antihistamines, chlorpheniramine, azatadine, clemastine; and Narcotics (pain killers) such as meperidine, morphine, propoxyphene, hydrocodone, oxycodone, fentanyl, and codeine are the medications that may reduce the effect of this medication. Please consult the doctor if you are taking any of these medicines while taking generic Atarax.
•   Intake along with sodium oxybate is not recommended because it increases the sleep duration and may lead to the problems in breathing.
