In today’s world where people are fretting about obesity and problems related to obesity it is a boon for those people who can stay thin and slim easily. While some try to stay thin, while for some the metabolism works great while they are genetically lucky to be the way they are. One of the best ways to understand their thinness is to watch them and then do it yourself unless they are doing something really unhealthy or surgically. Maybe we can look at how they relate to their food and their activities on a daily basis. Maybe we can learn a lesson or two from it.

As far as our eating habits go, there are three ways by which we can go wrong.

  1. Eating the wrong foods
  2. Eating too much in quantity
  3. Both of the above

Let us focus on the second number where eating in abundance causes problems. This is also the most common with most people. Quickly, take a little time off and think back, how exactly do you eat? Is it with a plate on your lap in front of the television? Do you keep eating, fork after fork not stopping and unmindful? You may not even remember the taste of what you have eaten as the pleasure of eating lay in the quantity and place, not on what you had. If this habit does not stop, there is nothing you can do to lose weight. Try the following to start and it will work:

  1. Eat at the dining table without the television. The TV is a distracter and often you are not alert about how much you are eating since you are so engrossed in the TV. The TV can only interfere with the large quantities, won’t do any other good.
  2. Take in one mouthful at a time. Do not be in a rush. In our busy schedules, it is usual to pile a fork-load over the other and finish the food fast but it is unhealthy. Savor each mouthful till the first mouthful is gone.
  3. Eat slowly, chew slowly and enjoy what you are eating. Take eating seriously and think about the food you are putting into your mouth.
  4. This may be the toughest one. When you are not completely full but pleasantly full, STOP eating. It may be difficult to understand when that moment comes but if you try, you will know. This may also mean that some food will be left-over on the plate, let it be. Save the leftover for the next meal if it is possible.
  5. Sit down for a few minutes and look back at the food you have just enjoyed. Analyze, how was it cooked, how did it look, how did it taste and how you might make it differently the next time.

This approach for your weight loss requires some degree of change in the mental attitude towards food and losing weight. It just might work for you but there are other ways that work as well if you may want to investigate them as well.

Losing weight and becoming thin is all a matter of strength in the mind. Try it even if it looks tough, you may emerge a winner.
