Obesity had been declared as a disease years back but lately it also earned the title of being the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. This is because, the causes of obesity vary and the treatment has to be done accordingly.

  • Genetic- This is one of the hardest to treat. In case of people who are obese due to the fact that it runs in the family, they have to go on a weight loss spree that can last from a few months to years. The weight loss is gradual and they have to be extremely patient and disciplined. Also, if obesity is heredity, they have to keep a constant watch on what they eat and their work out as it is extremely easy for them to gain weight.
  • Medications- Some people tend to gain weight when they are on certain medications or drugs, the most common being oral contraceptive pills. These drugs can increase water retention in the body, increase the rate at which the fat is accumulated or make the person become sluggish and lethargic, thus encouraging a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Emotional turmoil- Some people tend to over eat when they are extremely depressed. This is more common in children who are from single parent families, do not have social life or are not on healthy terms with their parents. They not only overeat but tend to avoid leading an active life.
  • Hormonal imbalance- This form of obesity is more common in women who tend to put on weight as a result of hormonal imbalance. In such cases, obesity is also treated as a symptom for PCO’s (Polycystic Ovarian Disorder).

Obesity could also be a cause for diabetes, hypertension and stroke. But though, it can be diagnosed almost at a glance, it is hard for doctors to treat it.
