
What are Ulcers?
They are usually crater like sores formed in the stomach lining just before the small intestine. Generally these stomach ulcers are also called as the peptic ulcers. It can be a symptom of some other ailment too. Children can also develop stomach ulcers. The nerves surrounding the stomach are usually affected by the ulcer. These nerves get inflamed and cause pain.
Causes of Stomach Ulcer
Usually the stomach tissues are shielded by a coating of mucus, which protects it from hydrochloric acids. If this function is impaired it can lead to ulcer formation. Some other reasons are outlined below:
- Injury to the above mentioned mucosal lining
- Weakening of this defense.
- Stress
- Excess presence of hydrochloric acid
- Consumption of anti-inflammatory medications (like aspirin tablets).
- Cigarette smoking.
- Extra spicy food etc.
Symptoms of Ulcer
There are many symptoms that one may witness and a few of them are given below:
- Burning pain in the abdomen.
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Decrease or loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Blood in vomit or stool.
Diagnosis of Ulcer
Diagnosis of stomach ulcer is usually done by a doctor by employing an X-ray machine or through endoscopic examinations.
Treatment
Apart from medications (anti-biotic), some of the natural food that can help treat stomach ulcer are as follows:
- Raw or boiled vegetables and its juices
- Fruits and fruit juices
- Butter and cream
- Other calcium enriched products
- Bananas
- Lime
Prevention
Although the ways to prevent ulcers are only a handful, they are simple and effective. Wash your hands before meals and start regular exercising. Quitting smoking is also effective to prevent stomach ulcers
