Smoking acts as a slow poison deteriorating your body with time. It is a known fact that:

  • Smoking costs hundreds of dollars to an individual each year

Despite knowing all this, it is surprising to see that people still smoke and do not have the determination to quit this habit. This is due to fact that smoking is a deadly addiction that is easy to adopt but hard to get rid. Majority of individuals start smoking in their adolescent. Statistics point out that around 90% of people start smoking and get addicted to it before the age of 19. For adolescent, smoking is a fashion statement, a trademark of being cool. For grown-ups, smoking is a way to relax. Reasons are different for all age groups but the affects of smoking are same i.e. disastrous.

Cigarettes are considered to be the most addictive poison due to the ingredients they are made up of. You would be shocked to learn that a cigarette contains more than 4,000 chemicals that include 43 recognized cancer-causing compounds as well as 400 other toxins. A cigarette contains nicotine, carbon monoxide and tar in addition to ammonia, formaldehyde, arsenic, hydrogen cyanide, and DDT. The most dangerous of all is nicotine, which is the addictive alkaloid that is found in leafs of a tobacco plant. Nicotine is a kind of a poison developed by few plants to prevent themselves from insects damaging the plant tissues. Also, nicotine is a strong toxin commercially sold as a pesticide.

 

When a person smokes, nicotine travel to lungs and reaches the brain in a matter of six seconds. Majority of chemicals that are inhaled while smoking remains in the lungs. Hence, the more a smoker inhales tobacco the better he/she will feel and the greater harm it will pose to the lungs. Listed below are some of the chemicals found in a cigarette and their potential fallouts

 

  • Cadmium – associated with prostrate and lung cancer
  • Pesticides and fungicides – can cause cancers as well as birth defects
  • Benzene – associated with leukemia
  • Nickel – increases vulnerability to lung infections
  • Formaldehyde – causes lung cancer

You enjoy that piece of paper wrapped with tobacco but it is packed with such harmful substances. Most of the chemicals are included to keep you glued to cigarettes without any concern to your health. But it is up to you to make the final decision. Whether you want to continue puffing these chemicals into your body and make them more susceptible to heart disorders and several types of cancer or you want to quit smoking and enjoy life. The ingredients found in a cigarette are a good enough motivator for you to stop smoking. Remember, it is never too late to quit this habit. No matter if you are addicted to smoking for the last 30 years; you can still give up this harmful addiction. Life is precious and smoking is a poison killing you slowly but steadily.
