Sounds strange but the old wives tale of a mother determining a child’s gender could be true as per a new studied. It was noted that in the last couple of years, the number of male babies was decreasing in the developed countries. The number reached 1 in thousand babies. This was linked with increased obesity in developed countries as people there had increased the intake of low fat food in order to keep a watch on their weight.
A study of diet that women followed before having a son showed that they always had a healthy breakfast and never increased their calorie intake by 400 calories. In other words, women who wanted to have a son had more of cereals, bananas, used more salt and had butter in milk on a daily basis. The diet ensured that mothers had foods that were high in nutrition, including potassium, calcium, Vitamin C, E and B12.
In UK, an independent study was conducted on women who were expecting and did not know the gender of their fetus. They were asked to make a note of the food that they had before and after their pregnancy. The result showed that of 20 women, 11 women who had high fat diet gave birth to sons. On the other hand, women who were watching their weight and were on low fat diet had baby girls.
Experts believe that this was nature’s way of maintaining balance between the male, female ratio. Women, who had a high fat diet, produce ova that could be more appealing to the sperms with the XY chromosome. The study stressed upon the fact that women who wanted to increase their chanced of a male child should not only have heavy meals but keep eating at regular intervals. The more calories they had, better the chances.
