Renal, liver and heart conditions of patients suffering from anascara is a serious affair that needs immediate intervention. In most cases, patients are not even aware of the fact that they may be suffering from anascara.

What is this anasarca?

Many might consider this to be one among the varied skin diseases. However, anasarca is characterized by generalized body swelling and the affected person is subjected to severe illness. In the body of the anasarca affected person, the internal organs like the renal (kidney), heart, and liver may also suffer major break down in their functioning capacity. This is because excess of fluids are found to be accumulated under the skin as well as around the various organs of the body, leading to a condition called as fluid retention also known as generalised dropsy. Moreover, another deadly capillary leak syndrome is also found to be associated with extreme body swelling condition. In a prolonged period of few days/weeks the person affected by anasarca suffers liver failure conditions. It slowly demobilizes the effective functioning of the liver also affecting the secretion of various glands in liver.  Some of the other common symptoms that are seen during this time are:

  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue

All of these are various external symptoms predominant in a patient suffering from liver failure. Heart disease / mayo cardial infraction is also another predominant thing which causes body swelling in the person. Heart failure occurs when the heart has actually reached to one point wherein it could not effectively produce any productive pumping of blood to various organs of the body. Hence slow degeneration of the pumping ability makes the person have swollen limbs, greatly affecting their movements. In many cases, it can also affect the emotional equilibrium of the patients.

In a normal person, the kidney functions well with adequate blood supply from the heart but when the heart is affected, the flow of blood supply is also limited. This makes the kidney to compensate for the loss of blood. As a result of this, it retains salt, water leading to edema. This is the main reason why the intake of salt is limited to kidney as well as liver failure patients. This is done mainly to limit the entry of anasarca.

In women who are prone to taking diuretics for a long time, there is a condition wherein they do not urinate well. In turn they also retain the water salt in their body which thereafter makes the patient suffer from idiopathic edema. Some of the other causes of anasarca are:

  • Severe malnutrition
  • Protein deficiency
  • POEMS syndrome
  • Hook worms
  • Renal
  • Liver
  • Heart conditions

The medicines prescribed to cure this condition are:

  • Butethamine
  • Torsemide
  • Furosemide
  • Loop diuretics

These are given to regulate water as well as salt excretion from the kidney in the form of urine. Triamterene, spironolactones are all given to excrete potassium from the body. Proteins help to reduce edema. The best sources of proteins are eggs, broiled white fishes, skinless turkey or chicken, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt and kefir. A potent detoxifier named Alfalfa is also given in 2000 to 3000 mg a day as dosage. Hem dialysis or peritoneal dialysis and even kidney transplant are all the other options to treat patients with renal failure conditions. Heart transplant, fixation of pace maker to create electrical impulses for the heart to beat continually is all done to treat the patients with congestive heart problems. Hence it is very vital to address and treat the patients suffering from renal, liver and heart conditions. If neglected, it can prove to be fatal.
