Sweaty palms occur due to hyperactive nervous system which causes the sweat glands in the palms to sweat excessively. This condition is also known as palmer hyperhidrosis. Our body has millions of sweat glands, half of which are present in our hands. When our body experiences stress, exertion or high temperatures it tries to cool down by releasing sweat that could regulate our temperature.

A person suffering from hyperhidrosis finds it difficult to do daily tasks and also has a negative social impact. Imagine a person with sweaty palms trying to hold a pen or open a door knob, or shaking hands with a stranger. In excessive cases of palmer hyperhidrosis sweat can drip from palms too.

 

Causes for sweating palms;

 

1. Heightened activity of the sympathetic chain
2. Nervousness or excitement
3. Some foods and drinks
4. Caffeine
5. Allergies
6. Cigarettes etc.

 

How can it be treated?

 

1.      Anti-perspirants that are high in Aluminum chloride is been known to effectively treat sweaty palms. After starting to use it its effect can be noticed in three to five days. Skin irritation has been a reported side effect. Aluminum chloride paints are also available particularly to cure this disorder

2.      Instructional drugs are also available in stores which should only be purchased after consulting a doctor.

3.      Getting injected with bacterial toxin helps to prevent the sweaty palms. However, this method offers only a temporary solution and is also expensive. This cure is also known to be effective for some, so go for this treatment method only after consulting professionals.

4.      Iontopheresis: in this method the affected area is submerged in water and an electric current is applied. But this process is cumbersome as the treatment procedure needs to be repeated every night for around half an hour.

5.      The simplest way to treat this is to carry a dry tissue or handkerchief regularly.
