A survey done on couples who have been happily married or remained in a committed relationship for years has shown that they all have some common habits that gives them a sense of personal ‘happiness’. Every married couple fights, it’s a natural part of their lives, but how they make-up after the fight decides their bond. Some of the tips that successful couples shared with us are:

• Peace of mind versus winning an argument- Certain spouses said that they preferred to have peace in the house over winning an argument. This meant that even if they felt (and come claimed that they KNEW) that they were right about a certain thing, they gave in to their partners demands. This helped them have a peaceful sleep in the night and a partner who smiled the day away.
• Put aside your ego- It is said that a HUGE ego is the biggest enemy of love. Couples who had been eternally in love with each other said that they gave up their ego and let the partner have his/her way. This ensured that peace prevailed in the house. This may not come easily, but the wiser of the two partners chooses to be the one to flush out his/her ego and prefer a happily ever after.
• Love above all else- This may not be easy, but some men and women confessed that their love was so deep that they preferred ignoring certain faults of their partners. As long as the other person was happy, nothing else mattered.
• Give your partner discounts- A woman was married for 20 years and on the twentieth anniversary someone asked her how she put up with such a grouchy, moody man who rarely smiled. She confessed that on the eve of her marriage, she had promised to give her husband discounts on his 10 mistakes and every time, he made one, she just reminded herself that it was among the 10 mistakes and forgave him. However, 20 years later, she still hadn’t made an exact list of what the 10 mistakes were.
