Not many of us are aware of the goodness hidden in our medicine cabinet in terms of getting rid of some minor issues such as nosebleeds, insect stings and dandruff. Some of most common drugs for such cases are:

  • Antacid tablet- These are usually used for cases of heart burns as they contain sodium bicarbonate that helps to counteract acidity and relieve people from painful heart burn symptoms. But they can also be used for insect bites as most of them also have anesthetics that can decrease the itch and pain.
  • Mouthwash-used for the purpose of having a fresh smelling breath but they can also be used to prevent athlete’s foot. All mouthwashes have strong anti-bacterial properties that are known to destroy bacteria. They help to kill bacteria that reside in feet and toenails. The high alcohol content will help to get rid of the fungus.
  • Baking Soda- these are used in cleaning of teeth as they help in making them whiter and prevent bad breath. But it is a little known fact that baking soda can help in calming irritated skin. Baking soda is known to calm sunburn and minimize itch and discomfort in cases of eczema, prickly heat and poison ivy.
  • Nasal spray- one of the best ways to get rid of nasal congestion, nasal sprays are also an excellent remedy for stopping nosebleeds. In most cases, a nosebleed can be stopped by just pinching the nose for 10 to 20 minutes but of the bleeding continues, one can use a nasal spray. These help to constrict the blood vessels so as to arrest the bleeding. Along with that, patients should be advised to bend forward and blow out any blood clots. If the bleeding continues, even after 20 minutes of using the nasal spray, consult your healthcare provider.
