Hair loss is one of the most common problems ailing people. The reasons for hair fall vary, from mental, physical to nutritional deficiencies. However many people have to fight hair loss due to medical reasons such as:
Pregnancy -Most women suffer from hair loss during and after pregnancy. This is more common in Asian and African countries that have a high rate of mal-nutrition leading to most women being anemic.
Decreased amount of iron is one of the most common causes of hair loss. Iron is an important part of hemoglobin which is an essential part of blood. Hemoglobin carries oxygen and nutrition to various parts of the body. Decrease in hemoglobin level depletes the supply of nutrients to hair roots, which leads to weakening of the shafts making the hair more prone to being uprooted and breakage.
Hair loss can also occur due to hormonal imbalance that can occur due to malfunctioning of the thyroid. In such cases, the woman needs medical attention in treating the thyroid diseases.
It has also been observed that during pregnancy, a large number of hairs enter the telogen effluvium stage. In this stage, the hairs enter a resting phase which is part of normal growth-loss cycle of scalp hair. Due to this, there is severe hair loss and thinning of hair leading to bald patches. This usually starts after the 5th month of pregnancy and stops after 6 to 12 week postpartum.
This cannot be resolved by a medical treatment and usually comes back to normalcy on its own. Eating a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables containing flavonoids helps.
Jaundice- This is one of the most common diseases that can cause hair fall in men and women. Jaundice occurs due to malfunction of the liver. Liver handles some of the most vital functions of the body such as throwing out toxins, amino acid synthesis, carbohydrate metabolism and production of thrombopoietin. It is also involved with metabolism of all kinds of natural toxins, food additives and alcohol. Â When the liver malfunctions all the toxins accumulate in the body and decrease the immunity of the body. Â Increased toxicity is one of the reasons that can lead to hair fall. Also people are made to eat a light diet that can lead to deficiency of nutrients. With less protein and vitamins, the supply of nutrients to the hair decreases, this leads to severe hair fall. A balance diet can control the hair fall, though it may take some time.
Dengue- This disease that occurs due to mosquito bite can send the body into a state of shock. The immunity dips and the rate of absorption of nutrition decreases. This can cause hair fall. Also, the body becomes weak and takes some time to recover. It has been observed that post the recovery; the hair fall can be controlled.
Abortion- One of the most common things to happen during abortion is stress as women are always a little tensed about lying on the operation table. Getting rid of the embryo can also cause hormonal imbalance that can lead to hair fall.
