Genital warts are a part of sexually transmitted diseases as this condition occurs as a result of physical contact with a person who is infected. More than half of sexually active people suffer from Genital warts at one point or the other as they can become infected with virus that can cause this condition. These are also considered the most common types of sexually transmitted infections ever.

These warts occur in the genital area, a moist place that proves to be a perfect breeding ground for these viruses. These warts have a small, flesh colored bumps and in case they get aggravated, take the form of a cauliflower. The sizes can vary and in some cases, they can be so small that they are not easily visible to the naked eye.

Causes of Genital Warts

Genital warts are caused by a virus that is known as human papillomavirus or HPV. The same virus is also known to cause cancer. Some strains of this virus, if in contact with the genital area can lead to this condition.  Women can have this condition a lot worse than men as their genitals are far moister. In most cases, the disease can affect certain areas such as:

• Vulva
• Walls of female reproductive organ
  
• Area between the external genitals and the anus
• Cervix

Men have it comparatively better though lack of hygiene and sweat can aggravate the condition. In men, genital warts can occur on the

• Male reproductive organ
• Scrotum
• Anus

These warts can also develop on the mouth or throat of a person who indulged in oral foreplay with an infected person.

Some of the common signs and symptoms of this disease are as follows:

• Small, flesh-colored or gray swelling in the genital area
• Several warts that are shaped like a cauliflower
• Itching in the affected area
• Passing of blood during intercourse.
