Overweight (read healthy) children look so much more adorable than skinny ones, or so we think. As a result, we love to feed them, to ensure that their chubby cheeks remain chubby forever. However, as they age, this puppy fat can decrease their morale as peer pressure gets to them. ‘Healthy’ children are often ridiculed by their friends for the way they look and have to bear the brunt of their remarks and jokes.
Therefore, it is important that you make them fit and provide them with essential nutrition. Some of the healthiest ways to make them lose weight are:
- Keep healthy snacks- we tend to pamper our children by keeping potato chips, chocolate and soda handy in the form of snacks. Also, with increased number of working parents, children tend to rely on instant foods that are tasty but extremely unhealthy. Swap these for some healthy surprises that include fresh fruits, nuts (roasted peanuts and walnuts), fresh juices and tangy salads. Together, these will not only reduce consumption of chemicals and calories in the form of preserved food but also provide your child with vitamins, proteins and minerals, thus adding nutrition to their diet.
- Play along- children love being outdoors, even if grownups don’t. Take them to the nearest park or beach and have a game of ball with them. This will not only help them burn their calories but also prove to be a good way to have some family bonding.
- Be role model children- children tend to ape you in just about everything that we do. So if they see you smoking, consuming alcohol and not taking good care of yourself, they may develop the same attitude. So, you don’t just have to eat healthy along with them but ensure that you do it happily and make it look like you love it.
