Most of us are victims of severe food cravings that do not allow us to think straight. Due to this, we give in to the cravings but that can be a disaster as it means that you are never able to follow a strict diet. Learn to deal with food cravings in a better manner. Here’s what you can do:

  • Choose the best craving- You could be craving for a large number of food items but learn to choose the one that is the best, with least calories. Sometimes, the cravings disappear the moment we dig in. So if you are craving for sweets, have some juice or a fruit. At the most, opt for low-fat frozen yoghurt.  But it is important to bear in mind that this does not become a regular practice.
  • Divert your thoughts- If all that you can think about is your favorite bar of chocolate or vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce, close your eyes and try to imagine something better and different. This helps you forget your deep seated cravings temporarily. If nothing works, then pick your phone and talk to someone.
  • Get off the couch-Being a couch potato can increase your appetite and your cravings. Studies have shown that couch potatoes are more likely to be overweight than people who are not glued to the TV. The fact that you love to dig into your junk food does not help much.  The next time you want to watch TV, turn on the music and enjoy your idiot box.
  • Try acupuncture- There are people who have taken the help of acupuncture to get rid of any cravings that they may have.  This has been especially helpful with people who suffer from eating disorders in the form of craving for food. A few pricks at the right pressure points may do the trick.
