A latest finding, as per a medical journal confirms the fact that women who have fish oil during pregnancy produce to healthier children. For those who did not relish the thought of having fish, they should switch to supplements that contain fish oil, after consulting their doctor.
The study
The latest study involved a close observation of the number of times and the duration of common colds in babies who were barely 12 weeks old. As per researchers who were conducting the study, pregnant women who consumed 400-milligram dose of DHA on a daily basis had babies who recovered faster from common colds. DHA is a form of omega-3 fatty acid, an important nutrient found in certain fish. DHA could helps babies get over their common cold almost 14 % faster than children whose mothers did not consume fish oil in the form of whole fish or their supplements.
The only hitch
Doctors who were conducting this study stated that children who came in the group of omega-3 were more prone to vomiting as compared to those who were not this well exposed to omega-3. In fact, the latter group recovered faster. Mothers who had consumed fish oil have babies who recovered faster from various forms of respiratory diseases such as wheezing, coughing, congestion, and running nose. Most of these children recovered a month earlier as compared to the other group of children. By the time these babies (the ones whose mothers took fish oil) were 6 months old, they had less severe experiences of difficult breathing.
One of the reasons that makes would be mothers avoid fish is the fact that they fishes may be contaminated with mercury. Some of the safest yet delicious choices of fish consist of Alaskan wild-caught salmon, Pacific wild-caught sardines, and farmed oysters. Otherwise, they can stick to supplements.
