  1. This is obviously the first and foremost resolution and the remaining four resolutions are the important ways that can help you keep up to this resolution. So after you have decided to quit smoking, the most important step would be to believe that you can quit smoking.
  2. YOU CAN and YOU WILL- According to studies, the quitters who successfully quit this habit had one common trait – their belief that they can quit smoking. If you think you cannot, then your journey ahead would be tremendously difficult. Your entire quit smoking plan is depended on your belief system. You will easily give into cravings if you do not believe in your abilities to keep up the New Year resolution. Hence, believe that you CAN quit smoking.
  3. Write a QUIT plan- Planning is the most important step to attain success. Hence, create and plan and follow it daily so that you start your New Year on a smokefree note. Decide the date, for instance, January 1 and slowly reduce the number of cigarettes that you smoke each day. By January 20, you can be a non-smoker, only if you adhere to your plan.
  4. Take ACTION- If you want to achieve this unmet goal of quitting smoking, do not delay the plan you have prepared. January 1 means you have to start quitting, no more leeway.
  5. CONSULT your doctor- Quitting is difficult and hence seeking a help from a doctor would make the procedure less unmanageable. Higher rates of success have been shown by smokers who took help of a doctor.
