If you have a mental calorie calculator that starts working the moment you pop food in your mouth, then you need to switch it off. The myth that every calorie that you eat will make you gain weight is false. If you think that the only way that you can lose weight is by cutting the calories, then you better have another think coming. A latest study conducted on people who want to lose weight by dropping the excess calorie shows that certain food items may actually boost your metabolism due to which your body starts to burn fat at a much faster speed. Due to this, you may actually drop a few pounds by eating instead of gaining weight.

The food that can get you in shape is not some expensive and exotic fruit found in some la la land, but they consist of our everyday food items with a twist.

  • Chewy food- chewing in itself can be a tiring job that involves burning of calories and if the food that you consume needs to be chewed in order to be swallowed then the calories burnt down is much more. For this, try to have fresh fruits and vegetables in their most raw state. Chewing of raw food means excess burning of calories. So opt for fresh apples, instead of apple sauce, fresh oranges instead of orange juice, green and raw sprouts instead of the cooked ones etc.
  • Fiber- having fiber rich food is another way to lose excess weight. Opt for brown rice, whole grains and cereals along with fresh fruits and vegetables. These take longer to chew, longer to digest and due to that, the person can go without food for a longer time.
  • Dark food- coffee, tea and dark chocolate are quick sources of energy and also help to raise the metabolism.
  • Have hot food- chili, pepper and cloves have a heating properties and are believed to help the food get digested faster. They also boost the metabolism.
