Risk of Hear loss 300x200 Decrease The Risk of Hearing LossIn the age of 3-D surround sound and our portable musical player stuck to our ears, we subject our ears to an extremely high level of decibels, much more than what they are used to. The result is that we don’t even realize that our ears are calling for attention, when we ask others to speak up. A lot of others around us are also constantly requesting people to speak up. The number of people suffering from hearing disorders has increased in the last few years. One of the best ways to decrease the risk of suffering from hearing loss is to eat right.  Adding a few nutrients could help your ears to be in a healthy state for a long time.

Increase the dose of folate and omega-3 fatty acids- A diet high in these two nutrients can help to prevent age-related hearing loss. Cowpeas, spinach, broccoli, egg noodles and bread are some of the best sources of folate. Similarly omega-3 fatty acids are found in salmon, flax seeds and walnuts.

Studies conducted on diet to decrease the risk of hearing loss suggested that B-vitamin folate can decrease the risk of hearing loss by a margin of 35 % in more than 50 people. This is due to the fact that deficiency of folate can increase the level of homocysteine. This condition can restrict the flow of blood to cochlea. Cochlea is one of the most important parts of the ear and converts sound energy into electrical signals which travel to the brain.

In another study, it was found that people who consumed two or more servings of fish have less chances of developing age related hearing loss as compared to people who did not have fish as a part of their regular diets. It was also observed that people who already suffered from hearing loss, showed decreased progression of the disease.
