As the drug enters the body, the action within the body is described via two reactions:

  • Study of the biochemical and physiological effects of the drug to the body – pharmacodynamics
  • Study of the action of the body over the drug, over a period of time- pharmacokinetics.

In case of tadalafil, the effect of the drug on the body, in terms of treatment of erectile dysfunction is immense. Men can report that not only does their organ remain stiff and erect as a result of which they are able to penetrate women, but keeps them sexually active for over a period of 30 hours which is more than a day.

Pharmacodynamics of Tadalafil

Half an hour after ingestion of Tadalafil, it becomes available in the systemic circulation. However, the time factor can vary depending on the physical state of the drug. If the drug is taken in the solid form such as the pill, it can take 40 minutes to an hour while a gel form can act in 15 minutes. As a result of this, the bioavailability of the drug also varies. But the efficacy of Tadalafil remains high as it can bond with 94 % of proteins in the system.

Half-life of Tadalafil

The activity of Tadalafil is observed only till it reaches half life, post which, the action cannot be seen. Research has proven that the half life of the drug is 17.5 hours. But in most cases, it can be more due to which, the action is seen for 30 hours or more. Once the half life span is crossed, the drug may remain in the system but the concentration is too low to keep the man sexually active.

The reason a drug crosses the half life mark is due to the fact that it starts getting excreted out through feces (more than 60 % is thrown out through this route) and urine (30 % of tadalafil takes this route).
