DOSAGE FORM

Silagra is available as coated tablets of 50 mg & 100 mg which need to be taken orally. For most patients, it is advisable to take a 50 mg pill, an hour before sexual activity. It can also be taken four hours before any sexual activity. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is just once a day.
Patients who are suffering from severe renal impairment and hepatic impairment should consider a starting dose of 25 mg.
For patients who are suffering from ritonavir, it is recommended that they should not have more than a single does of 25 mg in a period of 48 hours.

Action of Silagra

During sexual stimulation nitric oxide (NO) is released in the corpus cavernosum of the male organ for reproduction. NO activate guanylate cyclase, an enzyme which increases the level of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP relaxes the smooth muscles of corpus cavernosum due to which there is inward rush of blood. Sildenafil inhibits the action of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) by enhancing the effect of nitric oxide (NO). During sexual stimulation, NO is released and sildenafil inhibits the action of PDE5 which causes and increase in the levels of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum due to which the smooth muscle relaxes and there is flow of blood in the corpus cavernosum. If taken as per the recommended dose, this drug has no side effect.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

• This drug is not recommended to people who are ingesting organic nitrates in any form.
• It is also contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of the tablet.
• People who are suffering from heart diseases and blood pressure should seek medical advice before using this drug.
• This drug is not advised for women and children and should be kept out of reach of children.

Side effects
In extremely rare cases, patients have reported stomach ache, headache, facial flushing, bluish or blurred vision and sensitivity to light.

Storage
It is important to store Silagra in a cool dry place, away from sunlight. There is no need to refrigerate it.
