No matter how badly you are avoiding eating food that will make you lose weight, you may unknowingly eat foods that are anything but diet food. These mistakes are more likely to happen when you are in a restaurant or with a friend, enjoying a party. Just by avoiding cheese cakes, pastas and oily dishes, if you think that you are strictly following your diet, then you are wrong. Here are some of the gravest mistakes that you can make:

  • Salads- Since the dietician has told you that you can binge on any amount of salad as you want, the first thing that you opt for when you check the menu are salads. After all, what can be safer than fresh greens? Well, you are wrong as salads nowadays contain cheese cubes, tofu, mayonnaise and the rest of the horrors that you must avoid. Some are also seasoned with oil and butter. Also, the veggie chips that often accompany pasta are nothing but potato chips. To make it worse, there are some restaurants that also serve French fries as a part of munchies along with your healthy pasta. So the next time your secretly congratulate yourself on your choice of salads, ask them the contents.
  • Avoid starters- No matter how ‘unoily’ they look, most starters contain meats, cheese and bread. All of these are a huge NO while trying to trim down.
  • Watch what you drink- The innocently titled smoothies are nothing but milk shakes that have tons of calories and flavored water are sugary drinks. Opt for plain water or fresh fruit juices with no sugar in them.

Most of the time, people only glance at the menu, see what is written and decide if they want it or not. So pasta is a no but if the dish is given a name to the tune of salads, then it is a yes, irrespective of the contents and seasoning. The same applies to drinks. Just avoiding alcohol and soda is not enough; one also has to avoid sugared drinks
